Ethnic/Racial Diversity

The Ethnic/ Racial diversity is different at every school because different Universities have certain percentages that the school has to meet every semester. It all depends on what the college is looking for and what certain minorities are underrepresented. As well it can have something to deal with the students academic performance. The school looks at all of that information to make sure that the student has the potential of being a great student at their University.

Extracuricular Diversity

When the college knows that you have been involved in some extracurricular activities in their high school. While in college if they want to start a small group of people who share their interest then they will. These activities can also help with the admission process because colleges love originality. By having extracurriculars on your application it helps the future students with their admission into the school of their choice. When the university looks at all of the future students they also look at the groups and how involved they were in their school. And by bringing it to the university it can help expand and improve the organizations that already exist at the school.

Academic Diversity

A student major/minor is another way for students to stand out on campus and before you get on campus let the admissions advisors know what your plans are pertaining to a major. It could also be so much better if the student chooses a major that is not that popular of students then it helps the student stand out. The different majors and minors in the world help people with being put in the diverse category.

Geographic Diversity

Colleges like to admit students from all around the world and different countries to be apart of their campuses. It's a really nice prop to put on the school website stating how many foreign exchange students the school has and from which countries their from. They are trying to attract students from rural and urban areas to help boost the admissions process. To show students that it is a good thing to want to go to school away from home. By going to a school away from home it can help with giving the students more opportunities and networking.

Diversity in College Admissions

The way colleges keep there admissions diverse is by following some guide lines to admitting students into their schools. These certain guidelines help to keep the schools diverse and get more admissions from all different types of aspects. If the student is of another race, ethnicity, age, academics, or an athlete etc the list goes on and on, but those things help boost your admittance. In hopes that this student will bring a variety of experiences, different talents and a wide range of viewpoints. And the students background helps a lot with classroom discussions and more participation in classroom assignments. Colleges like to know that the students can learn from one another and those are some of the things they look at for admissions.

Diversity In Higher Education

" Students with the most diversity experiences during college had the most cross-racial interactions 5 years after leaving college"
" Racially and ethnically diverse and university student body has far-ranging and significant benefits for all students, non-minorities and minorities alike. Students learn better in such an environment and are better prepared to become active participants in our pluralistic, democratic society once they leave school. In fact, patterns of racial segregation and separation historically in our national life can be broken by diversity experiences in higher education"

Welcome...Welcome...Welcome

Hello my name is Erinn and I chose the topic of diversity in college because I live with 2 of my bestfriends who are african americans and 1 of my roomies from last year who is caucasian. We all thought that us living together is going to be great and we are going to have so much fun together. Then when the semester started and we all were going out together as roomies people were giving us confused/dirty looks about us being together. It just seems to be so weird to see 3 african american girls and on caucasian girl together. A lot of really awkward staring was what we had to look forward to as being roommates. So that is what gave me the idea to blog about and also something that others would be interested in and getsome cool feedback.

Campus Life

In college we all have a choice. College can either be the best years of your life or the worse. And everyone experiences college differently. It's up to you how your experience goes. But would you like to go through college with an open mind or a closed one!? Because in college you are going to meet some amazing people that will change your life. As well as some people that will only be in your life for a semester.

I think that everyone should go to college and experience the college life. And by going to a school that is prodominantly white or black I don't believe you get the full affect of the college life. Because by going to an all prodominatley white or black school you will be around your comfort zone and not experience all that college has to offer. So by going to a diverse college their are so many more possiblities and it gets you out of your comfort zone. Thats what diverse colleges can do for you and so much more.

The Concept of Diversity

The concept of diversity revolves around an appreciation both for the uniqueness and sameness of individuals in an increasingly globalized world. This dynamic notion includes, but is not limited to, the markers of race, gender, ethnicity, age, class and (dis)ability. Diversity serves as the core value for internationalization of Central Florida Community College as students and staff make positive contributions to a world unconstrained by geographic borders.
